Its been a while now since Apple updated its Mac Pro

Intel Introduced Quad core Xeon Processors a while ago
Looking at the price
It seemed apple would be releasing a 2.66 Quad as top model instead of 3.0 Ghz

Actual testing showed that on day to day activities
Showed 3.0 Ghz 4cores beat 8 cores 2.66

In activities that needed multithread the 8 cores were better but not as expected

until people start programming to use the extra cores it didn't seem to be a very good upgrade
Also cost the 2.66 quad core x2 was an expensive venture
Entry level Mac pro would have been even worse

UNTIL NOW
Intel releasing 3.0 Ghz Quad Core for price of 2.66 Ghz
and droping price of the 2.66

When June-July 07

Which means Mac can introduce 3.0 Ghz x2 Quad core in place of 3.0 Ghz x2 Dual core
and for entry level 2.66

Obviously this will mean you will be getting 8 cores instead of 4 without performance in some applications loosing out

This also means Mac can advatise that new Mac pro is ---- Faster than older
which it couldn't previously
